Giving and Receiving Feedback
Typically, feedback training focuses on techniques and processes: "give it in a private, neutral space," "start with the positive items," etc. This is NOT
the approach taken here. This new approach focuses on eliminating the most
significant barrier to both receiving and giving feedback--the victim mentality.
Participants will learn to both give and
receive feedback effectively, not because of the technique they use, but because
they become the kind of people for whom feedback is seen as a gift--both in the
giving and receiving. They look forward to giving it and embrace it when given.
Participants have called this workshop the "graduate program in feedback."
RECEIVING FEEDBACK
This is difficult for people who "take it personally." They often fall
into the victim mentality when feedback is given. Yet whenever we discover
that our reaction is simply another form of the victim mentality--and a
condition that we can release--we begin to use feedback as a tool to improve
every aspect of our lives. Feedback becomes our "breakfast of champions."
GIVING FEEDBACK
Most managers have a strong dislike for giving negative feedback to their
subordinates. Their disdain for it, or the denial that it is needed, is a
major cause of managers' failures. It is a reason that the delivery of
performance evaluations, and other forms of feedback, is not done skillfully
or effectively by some managers. Yet the dislike and avoidance is simply
another aspect of victim mentality. When this is realized and released, then
a manager's ability--anyone's ability--to give feedback is greatly enhanced.

This workshop provides participants with the skills to both give and receive
feedback to such an extent that often techniques and processes are not needed,
though they may be helpful.
Length: 4 - 6 hours
Prerequisite: An introduction to the basic Totally Responsible Person® philosophy. If participants have not been exposed to this philosophy,
approximately 90 minutes of this workshop will be devoted to it.
This would extend the total length of the workshop to up to six hours.
